Volunteer Opportunities

Serve Our Willing Warriors is a Virginia, 501(c)(3), non-profit corporation, founded to help support our Nation’s wounded, injured, and ill military service members and their families during their recovery process. Our mission is to provide an enjoyable respite experience for our recovering Warriors and their families in a warm, home-like atmosphere. At the Warrior Retreat at Bull Run, Warriors and their families have a respite place to relax and enjoy! There are many ways you can become involved to help make this mission possible.

House Prep: The “heart of the house”. House Prep is a wonderful way to begin your involvement with the retreat! This group meets every Wednesday morning (10:30am to 1:00pm) to clean and prepare the house for new guests.

Administration: Have great organizational skills, IT, or computer skills? Enjoy data entry or assisting with writing policy and procedures? Give the Administrative Team a helping hand!

Appreciation Team:Help us show our appreciation to our Warriors, retreat guests, military service members, our wonderful sponsors, and volunteers who help make our mission possible.  Card writing, sending letters of appreciation, community outreach, and recognition awards are just a few ways that we like to say “Thank You”.

Ambassadors:  Do you enjoy talking with people, attending a variety of fun community events, and have a desire to SPREAD THE WORD?  We are looking for energetic volunteers to serve as Ambassadors to SOWW.  Ambassadors assist at area events by providing promotional material, answering questions about our fantastic organization and assisting with merchandise sales. Training is provided.  Opportunities available during daytime and evening hours, weekdays and weekends.

CFC Coordinator:Combined Federal Campaign Manager. Help us lead SOWW's giving campaign. This role includes promoting the CFC in our area, serving as a point for materials and collection pledges, and attending CFC events to secure federal donations.

Open House Team: The retreat opened it’s doors to the community once a month for tours. Anyone can be a tour guide!! As a tour guide, you will help share the history of the Bull Run Warrior Retreat. Additionally, you will help welcome our visitors, provide literature, and assist with merchandise sales. Training provided.

Grounds/Landscaping/Retreat Clean Up: Help us make a great first impression by maintaining our 37 acres nestled in the foot of the Bull Run Mountains. Clearing, planting, and maintaining the retreat grounds is a year-long effort!  Put your green thumb to work and join our Garden Team. SOWW is looking for a strong Garden Team Leader. If you enjoy planning, planting and maintaining gardens along with organizing volunteers to assist in keeping our gardens beautiful.  Then please consider becoming our Garden Team Lead.

Maintenance: SOWW is always in need of skilled and licensed handyman, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, builders, and contractors.  Snow clearing and snow shovelers will soon be needed!

Guest Services: Help us make every Warrior Visit amazing and special!  Volunteers are needed to assist with Warrior reservations, guest interviews, and scheduling of guest special activities.  Day time hours and occasional weekends are necessary.

SOWW Guides:  Thanks to our very gracious community, we are able to offer a number of recreational and cultural events to our guests.  On occasion, these activities require a SOWW representative to accompany Warriors and their families to area events (sports, theater, museums, etc.) and recreational activities.  Guides lead our guests (in separate vehicles) and are welcome to participate in these exciting activities!

Fundraising Opportunities: As a non-profit organization fundraising is critical to our organization. Join one of our active teams or create a team of your own!  We need help with event marketing, administration, and special event volunteers.

~Purchase a Brick Program:  The Brick program is a wonderful opportunity to display the legacy of the incredible sacrifices that have been made for our country's freedom. The funds will be used to provide our wounded, ill and injured warriors and their families support and a peaceful respite stay at the Warrior Retreat at Bull Run. Show your support by purchasing and personalizing a brick.  Please contact info@willingwarriors.org

~Sponsor a Room.  By sponsoring one of our many rooms at the Warrior Retreat at Bull Run, you are helping support a Warrior and their Family a week at a time. You may choose to help sponsor one of our many rooms such as: one of the spacious master suites, our playroom, kitchen, the workout room, our gardens and outdoor patios, theatre room, basketball court, the playground, or the therapeutic massage room. Room Sponsorship: There are many groups, big and small who can fundraise on behalf of SOWW. One sponsorship pays for a week stay for a warrior and their family at the retreat! If you are energetic and have contact with schools, civic, spiritual, sport, or any group/individual that may be interested in sponsoring a room, we need your to help spread the word! Come learn about Room Sponsorship and join the team!

Special Events: There are a number of Special Events throughout the year that help to make SOWW amazing.  Help us support one or several fabulous events like Monte Carlo Night, The Gala, Poker Tournament, Warrior Barbecues and holiday hospital visits. This is a fun way to get involved, meet our volunteer teams and many of the warriors we serve. We are currently in need of a highly organized, enthusiastic individual to serve as a Special Event Coordinator.  This individual will interface with interested community sponsors and volunteers.
